It would be wonderful if every prospective dog owner went to a professional dog trainer to ask how to choose the right dog for them and find a good breeder

Statistic shows that not every dog is right for every person. Unfortunately, lots of people purchase the wrong dog for the wrong reasons. This results in millions of perfectly good dogs, including purebreds, to end up in pounds and animal shelters each year. Their only “fault” is that they weren’t what their owners wanted them to be.

When people decide to purchase a *purebred puppy, often they first go to the classified ads in their local newspapers. But GOOD responsible breeders rarely advertise this way. In fact, the best breeders don’t have to advertise much at all!

Most breed clubs maintain Web sites to provide information and to offer referrals for breeders who adhere to clubs code and ethics.

Good breeding is a no simple project. They must have expertise in their chosen breed and a good understanding of the science of genetics, particularly the concept of resaving genes.

Puppy mills are large, mass production breeding operations with the motive is making money. Owners of these operations give a little thought to any health problems or temperament, which could be passed along to future generations. Usually puppy mills sell their puppies to pet stores.

Backyard breeders are people who irresponsibly breed puppies because of ignorance or greed or because they want to obtain a puppy from their own pet. The result of such breeding is pups with assorted health and temperament problems.

One new crossbreed or hybrid which has become a very popular is the puggle.

While not hyperactive, puggles are generally high-energy dogs, and usually require regular exercise, whether in the form of regular walks or backyard play. Puggles tend to exhibit a relatively high degree of independence, which trainers may find challenging, but puggles are generally eager to please.

Puggles have an affectionate nature, which can work well in families with children.

 

 

Many purebreds have inherent health problems associated with their breed. They can be expensive and hard to find.

Puggles are not necessarily healthier than its parent breeds. Both beagles and pugs can suffer from cherry eye, epilepsy, skin infections, locating patella’s, back ailments, and other genetic disorders that can be passed on to their puppies

They are relatively low-maintenance dogs that need occasional baths, nail clipping, tooth brushing, and ear cleaning. Like pugs, puggles also require regular cleaning of eye discharge in their facial wrinkles and around their eyes, as these dogs emit a larger-than-normal amount of discharge.

Sugar is good with other dogs and likes to play but she is very hyper and distractive. Nevertheless we are slowly making progress with her training.

Her Mom is very patient and practices a lot with Sugar.
